Bipolar Disorder

Bipolar Disorder involves experiencing shifts between elevated moods and periods of depression. Such elevated moods (increased activity and energy) can be pronounced and are referred to either as mania or hypomania. During a manic episode a person is more prone to engage in reckless/impulsive activities that might have negative long-term consequences. When mania progresses, there is also the possibility of psychotic symptoms such grandiose delusions and hallucinations. Depressive episodes are characterized by feelings of a depressed mood, lack of interest in activities previously enjoyed, sleeping difficulties, and sometimes even suicidal thoughts.
