Individual therapy

Individual therapy or adult therapy is a one-on-one therapy that results in an improvement of quality of life, change and openness.

Individual therapy or counselling helps to provide a healthier way of handling stressful situations and difficult problems, leading to self-growth.

It is best to seek therapy if there is a pressing issue causing an interference to daily life or some sort of distress. Seeking help when feeling particularly unhappy, overwhelmed or hopeless, is a good idea. Concerns that are discussed during therapy include (but are not limited to) are anxiety, depression, anger management, mood disorders, mental health conditions, panic disorders, eating disorders, addiction, abuse, and posttraumatic stress disorders (PTSD).

Adult clinical psychologists offer psychotherapy, which includes ongoing assessment as well as psychotherapeutic interventions.

The first step to receiving professional help for adult mental health issues is to get assessed by a psychiatrist.

The first step to receiving professional help for adult mental health issues is to get assessed by a psychiatrist. The psychiatrist will diagnose the main problems and recommend a course of treatment involving either medication and psychotherapy, or just psychotherapy, with the adult clinical psychologist of your choice. Our adult psychologists offer evidence-based therapies such as Person-Centred Therapy (PCT); Compassion Focused Therapy (CFT); Rational Emotive Behaviour Therapy (REBT); and Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT) in addition to a range of other integrative psychotherapy approaches, supportive counselling, and couples counselling.

Psychotherapy is not only about treating mental health problems and psychiatric disorders. Psychotherapy is also about helping people lead healthier and more fulfilling lives by resolving their underlying emotional, behavioural, and mental issues. Psychotherapy can be used to:

  • Explore and resolve painful memories from the past.
  • Deal effectively with ongoing psychosocial stress.
  • Find practical solutions for life’s common problems.
  • Learn mental and behavioural skills to become more efficient and productive.
  • Learn emotional regulation strategies to become calmer and more relaxed.
